OITUK TECHNOLOGIES and PRODUCTS
Document Image Processing (DIP) and Computer Output to Laser Disk (COLD)
technologies have been available for many years. However, the data revolution
in the office demands a desktop solution which can meet the challange of
delivering any type of document - scanned images, mainframe generated reports,
word processor files, faxes, multi-media files, spreadsheets, DTP files, etc.
Electronic Document Management (EDM) is the integration technology which
captures the resources provided by the conventional document management
systems and delivers a cost-effective document and data management solution
through a powerful Windows-based desktop.
The underlying technologies are harnessed via a client-server SQL database,
to provide a modular and transparent solution for managing all types of data,
bringing the power of industry-strength EDM engines to the desktop.
The DocFinity suite of EDM & Workflow modules is the complete solution for todays
complex and challenging office environments, scalable from an entry-level
department-wide application, to a full client-server enterprise-wide solution.
DocFinity embodies all the necessary components of EDM, integrated through an
open client-server architecture with a vendor-independent SQL database.
DocFinity has pioneered the use of a layered architecture where the users' desktop
is a powerful PowerBuilder front-end which interfaces with the DocFinity EDM
engines via standard MicroSoft techniques : DDE, OLE/2 and access via DLLs.
The front-end also interfaces with a variety of SQL databases including
(but not limited to) : ORACLE, SYBASE, MicroSoft SQL Server, INFORMIX, WATCOM,
and GUPTA. This approach allows the user to select a database of choice to
access documents from other business applications and provide a tailored
information management system without the risk and cost of a custom or
proprietory system.
The DocFinity
solution is the most complete client-server EDM solution which includes :
DocFinity Image - Document Imaging
Windows-based DIP module that scans, indexes, stores and retrieves scanned
documents. OptiImage manages the use of a variety of storage devices :
optical disk juke-box, CD-ROM, magnetic, or a combination of all three.
Image annotation tools include notes, highlighting, red-action, stamps,
typed text, and OLE with application launching. Full web-based access and use
provided via the DocFinity IntraViewer Module.
DocFinity COLD/ERM - COLD
Windows based Computer Output to Laser Disk module that compresses,
indexes, stores and retrieves high volumes of electronic output
The COLD module is DDE compliant, allowing users to import data into
spreadsheets via simple macros. It supports Graphical Forms Overlays,
Triggered Indexing, and 'rich text' options - Xerox Metacode and IBM's AFP.
OptiFiche minimises report storage requirements by compressing the reports
at the page level, yielding high (upto 95%) compression ratios.
DocFinity WorkFlow - Document Routing
OptiFLOW, the DocFinity WorkFlow module electronically simulates a given
business process by flowing documents through specific tasks defined as
Worklists. Tasks are easily defined using drag-and-drop techniques; they
can be re-routed to accommodate contingencies, eg. leave, sickness.
WorkFlow actions can trigger external events, eg. E-Mail, templated WP
letters, and be triggered via existing business applications.
Various document types can be part of WorkFlow - images, COLD, spreadsheets,
WP, video, sound, etc.
DocFinity IntraViewer - Web Access
IntraViewer, the web access module, provides full retrieval, document
management, and workflow functionality via standard web browsers in
Windows, Unix and Mac environments. IntraViewer also provides a rich set of
API calls allowing integrators to implement DocFinity EDM & Workflow
functionality within business web pages and portals.
DocFinity Filer
An innovative facility which offers a user-friendly and convenient means of
'filing' electronic documents in day-to-day use by simply draging and
dropping them onto the DocFinity Filer - a spinning optical disk whic stays on
the user's desktop. This facility is user-configurable, allowing default or
manual indexing through the Windows desktop.
System Options
DocFinity is completely scalable - from an entry-level (single user) application
all the way upto a geographically-distributed enterprise-wide system.
Scanning and storage resources can be added as required; print/fax servers
can be distrbuted on LAN/WAN; multiple database servers may be added to
distribute processing; storage media can be mixed to optimise data retrieval
rates by adding the Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) module (ObjectServe)
which manages the Cache and storage devices : WORM optical drives,
re-writeable optical drives, CD-ROM juke-boxes and magnetic. The IntraViewer
module provides access to data via Web browsers.
